It goes without question that at nearly every crime scene, the offender(s) must walk in and walk out. However, the whole process of footwear recovery and analysis is time consuming, labour intensive and ultimately expensive.

The number of shoe impressions found at a crime scene can be so large that the sheer volume of marks makes the whole process of recovery overwhelming in both time and energy.

The ability to collect, archive and analyse large numbers of shoemarks has been researched and developed for over 10 years. The result has been the production of TREADMARK a patented computerised digital imaging system.

Simply put, images from any format ie, scanners, digital cameras etc are entered into the TreadMark software. The software then allows the operator to compare, measure, analyse and identify the images. All image sources can be searched with themselves and against each other thereby creating a formidable database of footwear and allowing such images to be transferred to other users if need be.

The same is so versatile it can be effective in recording other measurable criteria such as instrument marks, tyre tracks, ear and lip prints.
